Washington State Housing Trust Fund granted $500,000 now and earmarked an additional $500,000 to the Homestead Advantage Program to assist a total of 20 families purchase homes in the next year.

Special thanks also goes out to the City of Seattle Office of Housing for its support of the Homestead Advantage Program with a $330,000 funding renewal.

This spring the Windermere Foundation provided a generous $1,000 grant in support of Homestead’s Advantage Program operations.  Thanks to everyone who supported Homestead’s grant proposal:

Leadership Grant from WaMu Paves Road to Success

The challenge to preserve affordable homes for hard-working families has never been greater.  Washington Mutual is helping Homestead meet that challenge and expand the scope of its work with a $35,000 leadership grant this year.

HomeStreet Bank Partnership Growing

Homestead has worked closely with HomeStreet Bank to build our current capacity of 18 homes in trust.  This summer, Homestead received a $3,000 Partnership Grant from the bank. 

And recently, Jeff Stedman who is a Senior Financial Analyst at HomeStreet, joined us as Interim Board member and Treasurer.  When asked about how he sees the lack of affordable housing affecting our community, Jeff said, "I think the biggest effect on families is that people who work downtown have to go so far away in order to afford to own a home.  They must choose between renting or spending hours away from their families, every day, commuting to work."

The Seattle Foundation Supports Homestead Community Land Trust’s Growth!

This is a very exciting time for Homestead Community Land Trust.  The stock of permanently affordable homes in Seattle will significantly expand as we add 19 new homes into trust this year, bringing Homestead’s total portfolio to 30 by this time next year. 

This historic milestone would not be possible without leadership and support from our community.  Homestead recently received a grant from The Seattle Foundation to build the capacity to sustain our growth.

“Homestead Community Land Trust work addresses many issues in our Healthy Community framework: providing for the basic need of housing, contributing to a vibrant and diversified economy by attracting more residents and businesses, and fostering strong and connected neighborhoods and communities. The Seattle Foundation was pleased to grant $25,000 to HCLT at this critical juncture in its organizational development and programmatic growth”, said Phyllis Campbell, President/CEO of The Seattle Foundation.

2006 Fall fundraising campaign a success

HCLT’s fall fundraising campaign was a great success! When the dust settled, 52 individuals had pledged a total of $11,320 to HCLT with employer matches contributing another $3,100. On top of that, Homestreet Bank honored HCLT with a Community Housing Award and $10,000 contribution and the Washington Mutual Foundation also contributed $10,000 to HCLT’s year end effort! Thank you all very much!

Grants come in

Homestreet Bank recently recognized HCLT’s work to create permanently affordable homeownership by awarding us one of eight 2006 HomeStreet Community Housing Awards given out in the Northwest. This $10,000 grant will support general operations. Thank you Homestreet Bank!

Thanks also go out to the U.S. Bancorp Foundation for granting $3,500 to HCLT this year to support our work.

The Archdiocese of Seattle’s Catholic Campaign for Human Development contributed $2,500 to HCLT’s effort to combat displacement of low income households from the Rainier Valley in 2006. Thank you CCHD!
